XPN MusicNotes: Listen to new song from The Dandy Warhols, meet Big Walnuts Yonder featuring members of Wilco and Deerhoof

Last year The Dandy Warhols put out their first new album in four years called Distortland, and now the veteran Portland rockers have a new single and video to coincide with it: “Thick Girls Knock Me Out (Richard Starkey).”

The “Richard Starkey” lyric, of course, refers to Ringo Starr’s real name. Watch and listen below.

And a bunch of musicians from some fairly well known bands have gotten together to form another group. Guitarist Nels Cline of Wilco, along with Minutemen bassist Mike Watt, Deerhoof drummer Greg Saunier ...

The Top 25 Records of Fuzzy Logic's Teen Years

Perhaps more than any other Facebook status update I’ve ever seen, the Top Ten Albums When You Were a Teenager list has been all over my feed for weeks now. After so much saturation, I couldn’t help but start to think about what my own list might look like. And then, having had plenty of titles (and memories) pop into my head, I decided to write about it.

Of course, I couldn’t possibly adhere to the 10 records thing. Instead, my list features 25 records I held close to my heart during those formative teenage years. There is so much ...

On The Road Again: The Dandy Warhols

Source: Fuzzy Logic

If there’s news that can perk up even the dreariest of days, it’s news of a new Dandy Warhols tour. The Portlandians are gearing up to hit the road in promotion of forthcoming record Distortland, and I must say that if you’ve never seen them live you really, really ought to. I’ve seen them a number of times now and they always show this gal a good time.

DANDY WARHOLS TOUR DATES

April 1: Salt Lake City, UT – The Complex

April 2: Boulder, CO – Boulder Theater

April 3: Kansas City, MO – The Riot Room

April 5: ...

Singles Club: The Dandy Warhols

Source: Fuzzy Logic

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that I’ve been a Dandys fan for nigh on 20 years, but so it is. And as a long-time fan, hearing new music from those lovable oddballs of the Odditorium, The Dandy Warhols, makes me a happy girl indeed.

“You Are Killing Me” is one of those songs that sounds a lot more chipper than it actually is. There’s a subtle pall over the otherwise infectious bounce, and a frown to Courtney Taylor’s vocals. But as it happens, I still find the single an enjoyable addition to the lengthy list of Dandys gems.

DJ Rescue (Zia of The Dandy Warhols) Leads the Spring Charge!

Every night is a two-act play. In Act One, Zia McCabe is onstage with the Dandy Warhols. Their show is off the charts, color-blocked cowboy psychedelic rock. It’s all the best things chords can do. Each paint-rollered stripe of color is sharp and glittering. Zia slag-jags the keyboards and bass and sings along even on the songs she’s not mic’ed for. It will put a smile on your face and twinkle in your eye. If doesn’t, go hit ...

Marco Benevento: Good Music for People Who Love Bad Burritos

Crafted By David Leigh Abts & Elizabeth A. Abts.

Edited By Leslie Blodgett

Being in Marco Benevento’s audience teaches you what the American Music Dream is about: Its a perfect fusion of generations and styles borne from twenty years of playing the piano.

My wife listened to his newest album, “Swift,” when it was featured on the New York Times’ Press Play music blog and fell hard for the dance-y, yet complicated rock songs that are unlike most of the other artists dominating the scene these days. Four-minute intelligent pop ...

From New York to DC with Courtney Barnett

By Brooklyn-based author David Leigh Abts and Washington D.C -based writer Leslie Blodgett.

DLA: When entering the backstage area of Webster Hall to hang out with Courtney Barnett, one is not sure what to expect. After her success at last year’s CMJ Music Marathon, she and her band are one of the most highly anticipated acts to be back in New York and part of this year’s action. To be honest what’s running through my mind is, These guys are going to be too cool for school. They’re going to think they are Zeus’s ...

Ticket Giveaway: The Dandy Warhols @ Theatre of the Living Arts

The Dandy WarholsIf you’re a fan of The Dandy Warhols‘ older material, this appears to be the tour to catch them. For the opening show last week in Minneapolis, they pulled five songs from 2000′s Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia, four from 1997′s …The Dandy Warhols Come Down, three from debut album Dandys Rule OK, and just one from any of their last three albums. So it seems that Courtney Taylor-Taylor and co. are feeling a bit nostalgic.

The tour will be stopping in Philadelphia next Tuesday, September 23, and if you want to rock out to “We ...
