Deli Readers,

We’ve been publishing the yearly Austin issue of The Deli (coinciding with SXSW) since 2011, and it’s our only print issue that’s not exclusively focused on just NYC artists.

After last year’s fun, "PsycheDelic" approach, we decided to dedicate this year’s issue almost entirely to synth and pedals (and bands of course!), in an effort to promote our Austin Stompbox Exhibit and Synth Expo – which, if you are a ...

Read The Deli's SXSW 2016

Check out the SXSW 2016 issue of The Deli Mag, now available online, and distributed in print next week in Austin during SXSW’s Music Week. You’ll find copies of it also at our SXSW Stompbox Exhibit and Synth Space!

Yes, we’ve done things a little differently this time: we shaped this rag the size of a 7" record, and created a "concept" issue almost entirely dedicated to Psychedelia, with a feature by our editor Brian Chidester about how this musical genre has become more and more influential in the new millennium. The two cover artists, Yonatan Gat and Lewis Del Mar ...

Pastel Ghost leaves SF for Brooklyn, plays SXSW

Source: Deli Magazine NY

Brainchild of programmer Vivian Moon, who recently relocated from the SF Bay Area to Brooklyn, Pastel Ghost remind us how psychedelia slowly emerged as an important influence in the electronic sound of the ’80s, opening the door to the lush dream pop of Cocteau Twins and to My Bloody Valentine’s shoegazer sound. The band’s electro cover of MBV’s ‘When You Sleep‘ sounds like a declaration of intents: shoegazer music where synths trump guitars. Debut LP ‘Abyss,’ released in early 2015, accomplishes this objective with flair, keeping things interesting with catchy melodies buried in reverb, and showcasing a production that ...

Painted Palms share video for “Refractor,” + tour with Small Black

Source: Deli Magazine NY

Bicoastal synth-pop duo Painted Palms released their sophomore album Horizons in September, shorly after embarking in an intensive (and still ongoing) five week tour with Brooklyn like-minded band Small Black. The project’s latest effort elegantly blends conflicting ’80s electronic influences, including Soft Cell’s light pop attitude and darker tendencies reminiscent of bands like Depeche Mode and Wire. Baby’s All Right will be hosting the NYC leg of their tour on November 20. Check out their brand new video for single "Refractor."

Zach’s CMJ Day 3: Second Child, Ezra Furman, The Grasping Straws, and French Horn Rebellion

Source: Deli Magazine NY

Wednesday night at The Bitter End in the West Village started with the understated majesty of New York/Philadelphia quartet Second Child (pictured). Playing warm, folk-inflected songs that found notable beauty with the harmonizing of lead singer Alex DeSimine and bassist Alex Tremitiere, the band subtly moved the listener but didn’t forget to straight-up thrill; their funked-up cover of David Bowie’s "Fame" enlivened the previously focused crowd, several hoots and shouts flying out. While Dirty Projectors are probably more similar to them, it’s exciting to see that Second Child can get loose like The Thin White Duke did on some of ...
