If you’ve been loving XPN’s Gotta Hear Song(s) of the Week, which come in the form of two tracks off a split EP from Ron Gallo and Naked Giants, then deciding which show to attend tonight is easy. Both artists will appear at the First Unitarian Church, and it’s Gallo’s first “homecoming” show since the February release of Heavy Meta (Gallo moved from Philly to Nashville a while back, but we’ll still claim him as our own). Find tickets and more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.

While he’ll always be a Philadelphian to us, the singer, guitarist, songwriter and rocker Ron Gallo is now based in Nashville, and has gotten together with the Seattle indie rock trio Naked Giants to release a split 7-inch via New West Records. The single features his new song, “Sorry Not Everybody Is You,” backed with Naked Giants’ “The Age Of Information.”

Gallo, who has continued to support his recent album, Heavy Meta, since its release last February, returns to Philly with Naked Giants on Tuesday, November 21st to the First ...

Just Announced: Ron Gallo returns to Philly at The Church this November

Ron Gallo | photo by John Vettese for WXPN

Philly-bred,  Nashville-living, sardonic rock ‘n roller Ron Gallo is making his way back home this fall with announcement of a First Unitarian Church show on November 21st.

Since the February release of his incredible record, Heavy Meta, Gallo and crew have been touring extensively — wowing various festivals, Europe (yep, just the collective whole of the continent,) and Non-COMM back in May, with their intense and critically self-aware jams. And soon enough, they’ll be bringing these catchy existential riffs for a hometown show along with support from Seattle’s Naked Giants.

NonCOMM Recap: Ron Gallo rocks the socks off of NonCOMM day two

Ron Gallo | photo by John Vettese for WXPN

I should have known that Ron Gallo‘s set was going to be quite something when he walked out in a jumpsuit. Little did I know what shenanigan-filled jams would ensue from there on out.

This was my first time seeing the brilliance that is Ron Gallo live, and holy cannoli, it did not disappoint one bit. Starting the set off by carefully unfolding a piece of paper, Gallo prepared the crowd for his dry humor by meticulously reading and annunciating each and every word — thanking “Radio Shack employees” for being ...

Hear Ron Gallo perform and talk Heavy Meta on World Cafe

Ron Gallo | photo by Tiana Timmerberg for WXPN

A few weeks ago, Ron Gallo brought his raw power and character to XPN’s weekly Free At Noon series. Now, you can hear selections from that performance, as well as a full interview with Gallo on World Cafe. It’s available to stream now via NPR.

In his conversation with David Dye, Gallo talks moving from Philly to Nashville, writing the album, and the story behind some of the imagery presented in the lyrics. He also discusses what went in to pulling off the ambitious, one-take video for “Please Yourself”, where ...

Ron Gallo wants you to try airijuana in new “Kill the Medicine Man” video

Ron Gallo | photo by Tim Duggan

While we’re gearing up to welcome Ron Gallo back to Philly for a Free at Noon concert later this week, Gallo is gearing up to release his new Heavy Meta LP on February 3rd. The Nashville-via-Philadelphia bandleader has been dropping preview tracks left and right over the last few months and this week shared a video for album cut “Kill the Medicine Man.”

Taking the form of a home video infomercial in the beginning, the clip (timestamped appropriately on April 20th) promotes something called “airijuana,” a “product that saved [Gallo’s] life” and is perhaps an alternative to ...

How Dan Reed will save Rock and Roll one song at a time

Source: The Key (WXPN)

The Darts | via Dirty Waters Records

WXPN’s Dan Reed is on a mission: to save Rock and Roll. This week on his weekday Top 5 at 5 feature on XPN, Dan will presents five new discoveries each day.

Indie rockers Cloud Nothings is the work of Cleveland’s Dylan Baldi, who turned his punky and poppy indie rock bedroom recordings into a full fledged band experience. They debuted in 2010, and since then have been churning out increasingly accessible collections of songs that gallop along at a highly charged guitar rock punk-pop pace. Cloud Nothings release their new album Life ...
