Listen to Palm’s wonderfully erratic, ever-shifting rhythms on EP ‘Shadow Expert’

I’m a fairly awkward person, which means I am also a fairly awkward dancer. To counteract this dilemma, I strive to be a top-notch head-nodder and/or foot-tapper. Usually it’s pretty simple to keep up with the constant, predictable beats of standard rock formula. But sometimes this equation is thrown out the window and my plan to look hip and cool is foiled. Palm’s new EP Shadow Expert is one of those times.

With wonderfully erratic, ever-shifting rhythms and sounds, the experimental indie pop group’s new EP breaks from normalcy in the very best way — challenging ...

Keep NYC insane! Guerilla Toss, PC Worship and Palberta play Palisades on 06.04

We believe the health of a musical scene can be measured by the amount of bands that are completely out of their mind, and also by the amount of music fans interested in attending their shows. In this regard, there’s a quality gig at Palisades in about a month (Saturday June 4th) that shines a bright, although rather psychotic, light on NYC, involving two local bands that sound nothing short of irrational (Palberta – pictured – and Guerilla Toss) and one coming across as "seriously disturbed" (PC Worship). Taking inspiration from subversive movements like ...

Palberta bring spunk to spare to Silent Barn 4/18

Source: Deli Magazine NY

3-piece NY outfit Palberta treat music like a playground—they run up slides, stand on swings, and climb to the top of the jungle gym carrying flags in thier teeth. A little riot grrl and a little noise, part clever and part temper tantrum, they pluck and sting and stomp around. They put on wild shows, radiating confidence, chemistry, and camaraderie with their audience. Palberta plays Silent Barn with local favorites Ava Luna (who graced the cover of The Deli a few years ago), LVL UP, and Palehound on April 18th; bring those dancing boots. – Leora Mandel

Jeffery Lewis plays Palisades on 10/4 with Shilpa Ray and Palberta

Source: Deli Magazine NY

Jefferey Lewis has been recording New York anti-folk heart-bleeders since the 90’s.  He was and is a staple in the anti-folk movement among contemporaries like The Moldy Peaches and Lach to name a few.  His lyrics are incredibly literate and are always an insightful exploration of language and expectations. They mold into long tangents of candidly crafted sentences which unfold into beautiful stories of life and living, no surprise as he’s also a successful comic as well as musician.  On October 4th he will be joined by noir chanteuse, Shilpa Ray (who will be playing our CMJ showcase at Pianos ...

(Rather extreme) Art Punk from Brooklyn: Palberta

Source: Deli Magazine NY

The no wave/art-punk movement pioneered by bands like The Lounge Lizards, Art Brut and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have paved the way for the current up and coming sonic experimenters that continue to push the boundaries of what punk music is and what it can sound like.  Bands like Guerrilla Toss, Sediment Club, Show Me the Body have been re-contextualizing an already well known punk sound and aesthetic, turning it completely on its side, and traveling to further and further reaches of sonic experimentation.  One of the latest additions to this crew is a quirky, all female Brooklyn ...
