On The Road Again: Kevin Morby

Well, well, well. Look who’s taking their show on the road?

Kevin Morby released City Music earlier this year (Dead Oceans), but thankfully he’s not resting on his critically-acclaimed laurels and retiring into some artistic hiatus.

Oh no. No sir. Not a chance.

April 2018 will see Morby hit the road on a fairly extensive US tour, taking him from Portland (OR) to Kansas City (MO), and a whole lot of places in between. He was born a rambling man, perhaps. Dates below, this is a strongly suggested tour to add to your gig-going calendar for 2018.

On The Road Again: Paul Draper

Well, well, well. Look who’s taking their show on the road?

It’s been a long time coming (20 years, give or take), but Paul Draper will soon be back in the US of A.

Having released his debut solo record earlier this year (which you will undoubtedly and inevitably hear me talk/gush about soon), the excellent Spooky Action, Draper is doing a clutch of dates with Steven Wilson. The two have worked together here and there, so perhaps a little cross-pollination will occur onstage. You’ll have to be there to find out.

This is a man who knows what ...

Very bright young thing Lindsey Jordan, otherwise known as the lass behind buzzy Baltimore project Snail Mail, is not content to rest on all those critical laurels coming her way these days. Oh no. Now signed to Matador, Jordan’s Snail Mail will be releasing a long player in 2018, and will also be heading out on the road to slay many a city. On The Road Again: Franz Ferdinand

Well, well, well. Look who’s taking their show on the road?

I don’t want to think about how long it’s been since the last time I saw Franz Ferdinand live, but what I don’t mind thinking about is what a good time it was when I did. If you’ve never had the pleasure, this news should make your day: Franz Ferdinand is gearing up for a big ole tour in the very near future, as they prepare to unloose new record Always Ascending. If the title track is anything to go by, the lads have gotten a bit glammed-up. And I ...

On The Road Again: Bully

Well, well, well. Look who’s taking their show on the road?

The howl-at-the-moon urgency and prettily sludgy noise of Nashville’s Bully feel more than a little relevant these days.  Surely, a kind of catharsis will be had seeing the band tear things up live and up close. Happily, that’s possible thanks to Bully’s upcoming tour in support of new record Losing (out now on Sub Pop). Tour dates below.

On The Road Again: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Well, well, well. Look who’s taking their show on the road?

I’ve been lucky enough to see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club a good number of times over the past decade and a half or so. As such, I feel perfectly justified in calling them one of the best live bands I’ve ever had the privilege to see up close and in person.

After what’s felt like forever, BRMC is readying a new record for release (Wrong Creatures, to be released in January 2018), and is fixing to take their stellar show out on a pretty extensive tour to play ...

Well, well, well. Look who’s taking their show on the road?

I’ve been seeing so much about the new Downtown Boys record on social media lately, it almost feels like everyone’s talking about it. And with good reason, it must be said.

The Providence punk purveyors are taking to the road in honor of the release of Cost of Living, and they’re not messing around. This tour is long, and it is thorough. Which means, of course, there’s lots of chances for lots of folks to go support this badass band.

It’s been four long years since Cults last released a record, and to celebrate the impending Offering long player (out October 6 on Sinderlyn), the (mainly) duo is heading out on a rather extended US tour. Those favorite sons of Louisville, My Morning Jacket, are gearing up to get themselves on the road once more to play their beloved songs to their adoring devotees. It’s been a good little while, but everyone’s favorite fuzzily twee dreampoppers The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are getting back out there on the road to play some new tunes (and presumably some of the old favorites, too). When last I saw the Jesus & Mary Chain, it was in 2015 on their Psychocandy anniversary jaunt. It was an amazing show, naturally.

Now, nearly two years later, the band is not only coming to the US once again, but touring a new long player in the process. Expect to hear not only long-time favorites but new ones as well, from Damage and Joy (out March 24). On The Road Again: The Black Angels + A Place To Bury Strangers

Well, well, well. Look who’s taking their show on the road?

You really can’t go wrong seeing The Black Angels and A Place To Bury Strangers live. But having these two excellent bands on the same bill? My compliments to whoever made it happen. If you’ve got a hankering for some incredibly loud, hypnotic psych rock with bite and some incredibly loud, shambolic noise rock, I encourage you to see this dynamic duo on their impending tour. Both bands will undoubtedly have new material to unleash, which means can’t-miss shows.
