Marian Hill and Opia Get DOWN at TLA

Source: Rock On Philly

Photography by Samantha Sweeney

Marian Hill made a righteous homecoming yesterday. The duo, who has been slaying and taking names with their R&B-infused-trip-pop all over the world, came home to Philadelphia to a packed house at the Theater of Living Arts.

Up first was another dynamic duo, New Haven, CT’s Opia. Energetic, upbeat and, with aptly self-described “tunes you can make out to,” the pair won over the then-burgeoning crowd into raucous applause by the end of the ...

Coming off a completely crunchy set at this past week’s NonCOMM, indie rock staples Pixies are gracing the Electric Factory tonight. Along with a smattering of old jams, you can expect ...

Featured image by Catie Laffoon.

No tea, no shade, no pink lemonade. They’ve toured with Vérité and Philly’s new rising stars Marian Hill. I had a chance to talk to lead vocalist Chelsea Lee to discuss their formation and plans for the future, before they headed out to tour.

Seeing a whole new side of Marian Hill at Union Transfer

Marian Hill | photo by Ben Wong for WXPN | brotherlylost.com

Marian Hill has never had an issue defining their sound and standing out from their peers. The Philadelphia-based duo consisting of vocalist Samantha Gongol and producer Jeremy Lloyd continue to bridge genres with very minimalist electro-pop backdrops, velvety blues vocals, and early R&B influences. Touring with current collaborator and multi-instrumentalist, Steve Davit, the collective graced their home stage this past Friday, October 14th, at Union Transfer to give fans the proper show they’ve been waiting for from the local underdogs.

With the release of their new album, Act One ...

A day too short, Governors Ball still brought the heat

Gov Ball | Photo by Rachel Barrish for WXPN

Festivals and I have such a love/hate relationship. Not only as a music lover and someone who works in the industry, but as a general human being. There’s the hot humidity of the early days of summer mixed with the tangled bodies of hippies and hipsters gallivanting across an open field, overpriced food and alcohol, and crowds so large you can hardly see the band you’re there to see. At the same time, you’re completely enthralled with the good vibes, the exciting atmosphere, and the thrill of so much good music.

At this year’s ...
