During Low Cut Connie’s recent NYC show at Irving Plaza, the charismatic rock ‘n rollers paid tribute to the late great, Tom Petty, by covering “Learning to Fly.” Trading Petty’s bouncy acoustic strums, front man Adam Weiner spun Connie’s characteristic piano flair to the iconic tune.

Watch the live performance of Low Cut Connie’s cover of “Learning to Fly” below. Then, catch Low Cut Connie at The Ardmore Music Hall with a smattering of other local artists for a stacked tribute show on October 29th. Dubbed “Philly Loves Petty,” the night will ...

Watch Low Cut Connie’s weird and colorful video of Prince cover, “Controversy”

The frontman of Philly’s Low Cut Connie, Adam Weiner, is a massive Prince fan; so much so that the band included an amazing cover of “Controversy” on their latest album, Dirty Pictures, Pt. 1.

When the track was first released back in May, the cover held the title of XPN’s Gotta Hear Song of the Week, so we like it quite a bunch around here. More recently, Diffuser has premiered a colorfully weird video as the tune’s visual counterpart.

Catch Low Cut Connie when they play alongside an awesome bill, including Chill Moody ...

Low Cut Connie remember Prince with cover of “Controversy” from new LP

On the first anniversary of his death, Prince is being remembered around the world and in a variety of ways. For Low Cut Connie, the tribute is a cover of the late musician’s 1981 hit “Controversy,” released today and and appearing on the local band’s forthcoming Dirty Pictures (part 1) LP. The album is due on May 19th, midway through a national tour that leads into a hometown date at Union Transfer on September 8th.

The rough and rowdy South Philly outfit keep the original funky spirit of the song but add a ...

Low Cut Connie announces new LP Dirty Pictures (part 1) with video for “Revolution Rock n Roll” and US tour

Low Cut Connie | courtesy of the artist

Marquee rock n’ rollers Low Cut Connie have a hell of a 2017 planned. Earlier this week, the band announced plans to release their fourth studio album Dirty Pictures (part 1) on May 19th via Contender Records. But wait! The band also announced a plethora of US dates for this year, including a gig at Union Transfer on September 8th.

Dirty Pictures (part 1) begins a new era for the Philly misfits, as the band “moves beyond its characteristic drunken bar boogie and dives into deeper, darker, grittier American life”. However, ...

Hear Low Cut Connie’s Adam Weiner cover Leonard Cohen at Music Hall of Williamsburg

Low Cut Connie | Photo by Noah Silvestry for WXPN | silvestography.com

Earlier this week, an all star bill of musicians paid tribute to Leonard Cohen at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. The night included performances from Lee Ranaldo, Josh Ritter, and more, including a turn by Philly’s own Adam Weiner (Low Cut Connie). He does a particularly fiery take of I’m Your Man cut “Everybody Knows”, taking a more rock & roll approach to the originally synth-driven track. Watch him stand on his piano bench and preach to the crowd in video from the event below.

XPN Fest Recap: Low Cut Connie shimmy and shake up the Marina Stage

Low Cut Connie | Photo by Noah Silvestry for WXPN | silvestography.com

At his beloved piano Shondra, Adam Weiner hopped onto his piano bench, and with one leg extended in the air parallel with the ground, he continued to bang the keys during Low Cut Connie‘s rousing set on the Jerseyarts.com Marina Stage. Weiner isn’t about conventional playing, standing on his bench has become so ingrained in the band’s shows that his microphone extends to compensate for the added height. At one point he even stomped the keys with his feet before shimming in circles and grooving his hips to the ...

Every American president since Herbert Hoover has gotten a Presidential Library named in his honor, located in a town in or near where each president has grown up. In each library, it’s common to find artifacts of the corresponding presidency, many of which offer a chilling look into the president’s personal life.

For instance, in George W. Bush’s library, you can find letters written to him by U2’s Bono praising him for his humanitarian work in Africa; at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum, there ...

Low Cut Connie get wild in new Audiotree session

South Philly piano rockers Low Cut Connie recorded an Audiotree session last month during a stop in Chicago. The band was on tour in support of last year’s Hi Honey LP and played a selection of songs from that record, along with their perennial hit “Boozophilia” and a deep cut from Get Out the Lotion called “Right Here.”

Philebrity spotted the session, which puts the band’s piano antics on high and lets their rootsy rock flags fly.

This past Thanksgiving The Key’s John Vettese wrote about the 15 Philly songs we’re thankful for. The songs were just a small snapshot of by Philly’s vibrant music scene, represented by the likes of Hop Along, Jazmine Sullivan, Kurt Vile, Agudos Clef, Hemming, Hezekiah Jones, Lithuania, Lushlife, Jill Scott, and others.
