Laura Stevenson talks cover songs, creative streaks, constant touring and making a live record for Planned Parenthood

Laura Stevenson has been quite busy. Over the past year and a half, the punk scene songwriter fave released her excellent fourth LP, Cocksure, via Don Giovanni Records and went on several back-to-back-to-back laps touring the U.S. and abroad in support of it. She hit the festival circuit last summer, released a live album this winter, and appeared on the Don’t Stop Now covers compilation to benefit the ACLU. Somewhere along the way, she found a minute to marry her bass player, Mike Campbell.

Laura Stevenson is currently on tour with Fake Problems singer/Antarctigo Vespucci co-leader Chris Farren and chiptune punks Crying, and the first of two NYC shows on that tour happened on Saturday (4/2) at Mercury Lounge. The Mercury Lounge show was extra special because it included an opening set from Anika Pyle, who fronted the now-defunct Chumped and now fronts Katie Ellen (who played Aviv a night earlier).

Laura Stevenson releases video for “Torch Song” + announces 2016 US tour

In celebration of her new album "Cocksure," out October 30 on Don Giovanni Records, in the spring Laura Stevenson will kick off a national tour featuring a show at the Mercury Lounge on April 2nd. Recorded mostly live, the LP represents a change for the Long Island born, Brooklyn based songwriter, resulting in her most raw and spontaneous material to date.
