When it comes to the local NYC scene, Bryant Park’s Emerging Music Festival (EMF) is the place to be. Returning for its third year, the festival is a hotbed for community and creativity. As the city’s only exclusively local festival, EMF is a can’t miss opportunity for everyone interested in keeping up to date with the scene. And ...
The Indie Rock Hit Parade is back in your face tonight at 11pm ET on XPN! Be sure to listen after What’s The Frequency??? with John Vettese for a full two-hour show that’s buckling under the weight of so many new songs. We’ll hear from newcomer groups like Cherry Glazerr, The Proper Ornaments and Landlady, along with new releases from established favorites like The Feelies, Slowdive and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Plus the IRHP Album Spotlight is back for another round in the midnight hour, where we’ll hear ...
Tonight’s ‘Landlady Holiday Spectacular’ also features Chrome Sparks, Lady Lamb The Beekeeper, Steve (of Delicate Steve), The Westerlies, Ex Reyes, Jeff Curtin & His Magic Theremin, Joanna Sternberg, and Uncivilized all playing, along with Landlady and something called “Crooklyn Rockers: A Very Natty Christmas.”
Frontman Will Sheff took a new approach for this one, incorporating members of the yMusic ensemble for a jazz/modern classical touch (plus Marissa Nadler and former Okkervil member/current Shearwater frontman Jonathan Meiburg).
Despite the fact that singer-songwriter Nicole Atkins drew us to World Cafe Live on Thursday night for a “Holiday Throwdown,” the pre-show mood was quiet with the kind of stillness the season calls for. Our eyes were glued on the stage door, finding no trace of our hostess’ presence once house lights were cut to complete darkness. A brief moment of bewilderment was interrupted by a gentle “hi” whispered behind us, and we turned to find Nicole Atkins magically appear in the middle of the crowd with guitar in hand to begin the show with a solo acoustic performance of ...
XPN favorite Nicole Atkins headlined World Cafe Live on Thursday night. Touring in support of her 2014 LP Slow Phaser, Atkins performed a mix of new songs and favorites from Mondo Amore (2011) and Neptune City (2007). As the crowd … Continued
Led by keyboardist and songwriter Adam Schatz, Landlady’s lush, symphonic soundscapes on sophomore record ‘Upright Behaviour’ pull influence from everyone from Sly and the Family Stone to the Pixies. Such is the effervescent nature of the piece, you’d almost miss the existential tones embedded into the tracks. Schatz’s examination on the human condition, however, proves life affirming, and the album offers uplifting instrumentation, huge choruses and the frontman’s soulful but booming vocals at every turn.
To celebrate the end of this great year that saw them tour with Man Man and Rubblebucket," Landlady is throwing a holiday season party ...

A band we’ve been following for a while, Brooklyn’s Landlady seems ready to step to the next level of indie rock stardom. The group’s upcoming LP ‘Upright Behavior’ was nominated Album of the Month by the Rough Trade NYC staff. Also, the band recently landed a major booking deal with Billions, which consequently opened the doors to a US tour opening for Deli Favorite Rubblebucket and Man Man. Check out their brand new preview single "Girl" below and catch them live at Baby’s All Right on July 15.
We covered Brooklyn indie rock collective Landlady twice back in 2012, and after a rather uneventful 2013 (at least as far news or releases are concerned) the band announced in February to have joined Hometapes Records, home of Bear in Heaven and Megafaun among others. Led by busy man Adam Schatz (of Man Man and mastermind of Winter JazzFest), the group will be playing Glasslands tonight March 3rd with Zula, Friend Roulette and Star Rover, and then leave for a tour heading SXSW.
