Thursday @ The Fillmore.

Source: Jump Philly

Text and images by Rick Kauffman. The return of Thursday to Philadelphia last week came far too long for a band that lives so close – just a hop over the bridge and a jaunt up the New Jersey Turnpike. Last week, the band Thursday settled into the new digs at the Fillmore Philly and […]Thursday @ The Fillmore.

La Dispute @ The First Unitarian Church.

Text and image by Tyler Horst. A packed house doesn’t usually make for an intimate experience, but La Dispute accomplished both at the First Unitarian Church on Saturday, where the band played the first in a series of special “sit-down” shows to a sold-out crowd in the sanctuary. “We wanted to try this in cities […]

Title Fight Seek Something Different With Hyperview

Source: Rock On Philly

Beloved Kingston, PA punk band Title Fight recently released their third full-length album, Hyperview, and took a noticeable departure from their gritty and straightforward sound. Delving into more creative songwriting instrumentally and lyrically, Title Fight’s newest effort gives a feeling of isolation and an indifference to the things that do surround them. The shimmering guitar riffs match with Jamie Rhoden’s more melancholy vocal deliveries, giving a sense of being lost in existential thoughts. Ultimately, Title Fight has taken their solid foundation of punk and morphed it into a more textured experience by taking elements from classic bands like The Smiths and ...

Album Review: Frameworks – Loom

Source: Rock On Philly

After covering post-hardcore Florida natives Frameworksshow at The Fire a few weeks ago, we have the treat of hearing their full length debut Loom streaming early on Stereogum and bandcamp before its 4/29 release. Taking the style they have experimented with on their first two EPs into an even more chaotic context definitely pays off for this young punk band. Their harsh and heavy sound is seriously top-notch, but they also soften up musically while vocalist Luke Pate continues to screams at the top of his lungs. You need to be able to appreciate the beauty and ...

La Dispute’s Sold Out Emotional Hardcore Show at Union Transfer

Source: Rock On Philly

Pianos Become the Teeth

Michigan post-hardcore band La Dispute stopped by Union Transfer this past Friday 4/11 with Baltimore’s Pianos Become The Teeth and Seattle’s Mansions. It was a stacked show, and every band deserved to be playing in front of the sold out crowd at this venue. Three-piece Mansions played heavily off their latest album Doom Loop, which is a loud mix of emo and punk. Pianos Become The Teeth played hardcore music that shifted between beautiful moments and more gruesome ones. The resulting sound is tear-jerking, especially with the honest, quivering, yet powerful voice of Kyle Durfey. ...

Album Review: La Dispute – Rooms of the House

Source: Rock On Philly

Grand Rapids Michigan’s post-hardcore five piece La Dispute recently released their third full length album Rooms of the House, which was recorded at nearby Conshohocken’s Studio 4 with producer Will Yip. The album really shows the skills of these young individuals. La Dispute is as great at making a poetic and creative record as Yip is at making it sound sonically superb.

As they have on their past two albums, La Dispute creates a powerful narrative centered around a theme that is inspired from past experiences and fictionalized events. In “Hudsonville, MI,” vocalist Jordan Dreyer introduces us to the ...

Album Review: Big Ups – Eighteen Hours of Static

Source: Rock On Philly

Big Ups is a post-punk band from New York City who recently released their debut full length album. Eighteen Hours of Static is full of sounds and lyrics that will make your hair raise, gut wrench, and your mind feel like its going to explode. Themes and charged lyrics that deal with 21st century loss of emotion, atheism, death, and consumerism are met with equally as explosive instruments that change at the drop of a hat. Big Ups blend hardcore, punk, and indie rock together into some seriously awesome bi-polar tunes.

The album opens up with the unsettling “Body Parts,” ...

Source: The Key (WXPN)

La Dispute recently announced their next full length album, Rooms of the House due out March 18th via Better Living. Sure to be another heavy dose of experimental hardcore story telling, we should be expecting something that will “blow people’s minds away,” at least according to album producer Will Yip who posted a picture with La Dispute to Instagram the other day.
