Kississippi is back, and stronger than ever. The recording project of Zoe Reynolds has become such a fixture of the Philly music scene lately that it’s easy to forget it’s been two years since their debut EP, We Have No Future, We’re All Doomed, was released. The XPN Fest alum has certainly kept busy over those last two years, though, and just announced that their first full-length, Sunset Blush, will be released in April 2018 via SideOneDummy Records.

Along with this news comes our first glimpse of the forthcoming ...

The Dudes Abide: The Districts shine at Johnny Brenda’s residency

The Districts | photo by Jeremy Zimmerman | jeremy-zim.com

Well, well, well. If the gosh darn boys aren’t back in town. After what felt like almost whole year, our hometown heroes The Districts returned to a Philadelphia stage for three proper headlining shows at Johnny Brenda’s. And while 2016 wasn’t necessarily a quiet year for them — touring with both Modest Mouse and Dr. Dog is nothing to sneeze at — it definitely felt like a bit of a building year for a band that otherwise seems to have unlimited amounts of energy. It makes sense, with hints of LP3 trickling ...

XPN Fest alums Kississippi released one of our favorite records last year with We Have No Future, We’re All Doomedan up-close-and-personal collection of songs that don’t just tug at heartstrings, they rip them apart. With anticipation for new material high, singer-songwriter Zoë Allaire Reynolds has now shared a snippet of a new demo over Bandcamp called “who said it first.” The sub-minute track has a simple, looping feeling as layers of guitar and synth float along with Reynold’s hypnotic, almost whispered vocals.

What a DIY dream. Longtime favorite of The Key Slingshot Dakota and recent XPoNential Festival artist Kississippi have teamed up for an awesome fall tour that’s a testament to doing things on your own terms, not accepting the status quo of the business, and, of course, playing kick ass music. They’ll bring the house down on October 9th at the lovable batting-cages-turned-show-space Everybody Hits with a opening performances by a solo Kiley Lotz of Petal and Fake Boyfriend.

XPN Fest Recap: Kississippi conquers the Marina Stage to open day two

photo by Cameron Pollack for WXPN | cameronpollackphotography.com

“Philadelphia gobbles up the stars / a thousand miles from where you are / if my arms were long enough I’d reach that far,” Zoë Allaire Reynolds crooned during “Googly Eyes,” the first song of Kississippi‘s opening set on day two of XPoNential Festival. On the Jerseyarts.com Marina Stage as the afternoon sun shined above, Reynolds and company painted an achingly relatable picture with their music and lyricism. Hailing from across the bridge, the four-piece has a striking live blend of deep riffs, shoegaze elements and no shortage of palpable emotion.

“This is crazy, there’s ...

XPNFest Preview: Kississippi on the art of the sad song

Kississippi at Key Fest | Photo by Rachel Del Sordo for WXPN

Trying to unlock the secret of a sad song is harder than it looks. Zoë Allaire Reynolds still hasn’t figured it out – and she writes them.

“Being sad, I guess,” the Kississippi frontwoman offers as a possibility with a chuckle. Reynolds has just gotten her hair done. She’s thinks she might want to do something drastic to it in the future, but for now just a trim. For someone who so adequately spells out moments of distress, she’s bright and chipper.

Her band’s latest EP We Have No ...
