The album was recorded in the “dark cold days of February” in Reykjavík, Iceland. Those cold and dark days are certainly something Philadelphians can relate to right now, and Barwick’s ambient music is the perfect soundtrack to lose yourself in these days.

Brooklyn recording artist Julianna Barwick has announced a headlining tour for early 2014 that includes a stop the First Unitarian Church‘s Side Chapel on February 9th. Barwick released her third full-length Nepenthe this year, which won praise from Pitchfork, the New York Times, NPR and many other publications.  Nepenthe showcased the Louisiana native’s adaptation of her church choir roots in an electronica setting, looping her vocals and instruments in a haunting, atmospheric and striking way. Tickets and information for the all-ages show can be found here. Watch her video for “The Harbinger” below.
