Field Music share Madonna-inspired “Count it Up” from new LP

Source: Brooklyn Vegan

UK duo Field Music have shared the first single from their forthcoming album, Open Here. Written by David Brewis, the synthy, slinky number owes sonic debt to the early ’80s innovators like Bill Nelson and XTC. Specifically, though, the song tips its hat to Madonna’s “Material Girl” both musically and lyrically. In a very 2017 way, mind you…

Field Music share “Disappointed” video & remixes ++ win tix to Rough Trade show

Source: Brooklyn Vegan

Field Music have made a video for their single “Disappointed,” one of the standout cuts on their new album Commontime (one of my favorite LPs of 2016 so far). Director Andy Martin uses a Matrix-y “bullet time” effect to rotate around a flash-frozen David and Peter Brewis…

Video of The Day #119: Field Music

Video of The Day #119: Field Music

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video Of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

I pretty much love everything about the song/video for Field Music‘s new ditty “Disappointed.” It sounds like a long lost treasure from the endless pipeline of 80s gold from English shores, and the video is a perfect visualization of the wry poppy gem. A classic in the making.

Field Music: Commontime

“The noisy days are over/And here we are instead,” says the opening track to Commontime. It’s an amusing statement coming from brothers David and Peter Brewis, who are always reliable in delivering albums that are angular, synth pop/art rock. They always manage to explore new ground while still retaining a familiar sound, a little funky and a little nerdy. The Brewis brothers have settled into their respective family lives, which informs their lyrics beyond “The Noisy Days Are Over.” “The Morning Is Waiting” is a piano-led lullaby that sounds like a sunny Beatles tune, ...
