A Space for Giants hosted an event featuring the legendary Chic and the prolific (to put it lightly) Nile Rodgers raising awareness for both the latter’s illustrious career (with not only songs from Chic’s catalog but Daft Punk, Madonna and the star child David Bowie’s discography)  as well as the former’s mission of raising awareness for the fortunately dwindling ivory trade. The event boasted a host of musicians and personalities  (both of the actor variety and philanthropic stock). Eagles of Death Metal play surprise Paris show on 2-year anniversary of Bataclan attack

The band’s Jesse Hughes and Dave Catching played a surprise show at a memorial service marking the two-year anniversary of the attacks, which claimed the lives of 89 people, including the band’s merch manager, Nick Alexander.

1961 – Bob Dylan signs with Columbia Records, his first recording contract.

1962 – The Rolling Stones (known as The Rollin’ Stones and consisting of Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, pianist Ian Stewart, and drummer Tony Chapman) record their first demo tape at Curly Clayton Studios in Highbury, London. They recorded three songs: Jimmy Reed’s “Close Together,” Bo Diddley’s “You Cant Judge A Book By The Cover,” and Muddy Waters’ “Soon Forgotten.”

1964 – The Beatles record “Honey Don’t” for their Beatles For Sale album after the song’s writer, Carl Perkins, visits them in the studio.

Guitarist, songwriter, and producer Nile Rodgers and the band he co-founded, Chic, are playing the Susquehanna Bank Center BB&T Pavilion with Duran Duran on Thursday July 21st. It’s billed as The Paper Gods Tour, based on the name of the album Duran Duran recently released, and the bands are doing 28 dates together. Rodgers collaborated with Duran Duran on a song that also featured Janelle Monae from the album, “Pressure Off.”

Musikfest Announces Lineup for 32nd Annual Festival August 7-16

Muskifest rings in their 32nd annual festival in Bethlehem, PA from August 7th-16th. It is the country’s largest free musical festival. Reba McEntire, Jerry Seinfeld, Flaming Lips, Duran DuranSnoop Dogg, Culture Club, Cracker, and Kristian Bush are among the 325-plus musicians performing this year.  Free music will be featured on 15 of its 16 stages, a total of 550 free music and art performances, the most in the event’s history.
