XPN’s Gotta Hear Song of the Week: “A Nickel and A Nail” by Don Bryant

75-year-old soul and R&B singer and songwriter Don Bryant is having a second chance to a long and successful career. He recently released Don’t Give Up On My Love on Fat Possum Records. It’s only the second album of his career; his one and only other album, Precious Soul, was released in 1969.

From Memphis, Tennessee, Bryant’s songwriting claim to fame is “I Can’t Stand The Rain,” which became a hit for his wife Ann Peebles in 1974 from her ground breaking R&B album of the same name.
