Dan Auerbach: Waiting On A Song

The Black Keys front man, Dan Auerbach is back with his second solo release in eight years, Waiting On A Song. It’s billed as his love letter to Nashville where he now resides, and the album certainly plays that way. With more resources and plenty of high profile help from John Prine, Duane Eddy, Bobby Wood, and others, Auerbach hits a home run with this album. It’s a departure from the grit so prevalent on Black Keys albums, making it fresh, fun, and a pleasant surprise for fans of the band. ...

Cage the Elephant Returns to the Blues on Tell Me I’m Pretty

After experimenting with different influences on their last two albums, Cage the Elephant returns to a more bluesy, classic sound on their fourth and latest effort, Tell Me I’m Pretty. In an interview with The Aquarian Weekly, lead singer Matt Schultz calls the album “not minimalistic, but classic.” It’s a pretty succinct way to describe the no-frills, blues approach that makes Tell Me I’m Pretty reminiscent of the band’s explosive self-titled debut album back in 2008.

Source: Rock On Philly

Happy Father’s Day! The actual day may have passed, but the music doesn’t have to. This week we have a playlist full of great music inspired by dear old dad. With a little bit of rap and R&B, a little bit folk, and a little bit country we have it all!

A little school yard nostalgia…

And for all those times you drag the poor old man around…

Laura Marling with the female perspective.

Maybe one of the saddest songs from a son to a father ever written, grad a tissue…

The Black Keys Don’t Disappoint but Don’t Overwhelm Either

Source: Rock On Philly

Jack White may have criticized The Black Keys for copying The White Stripes style, but if anything, Turn Blue proves that the Black Keys continue to create a sound uniquely its own. “Weight of Love” begins the album, and the first two minutes consist of all instrumentals, as if Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums) are demonstrating to their haters (Justin Bieber included) that they own the neo-blues sound. Finally, the lyrics enter the song, but it’s tempting to want Auerbach to stop singing his rather cheesy lyrics (i.e. “Don’t give yourself away to the ...

The Black Keys return with ‘Turn Blue,’ a little more subdued and psychedelic

Source: The Washington Post » Music

Who doesn’t like the Black Keys?

Until recently, probably the same people who didn’t like Jennifer Lawrence — outliers, purists, grumps. They were the one rock band most everyone could agree on: hipsters and classic rock fans, frat boys and dad rockers. They were the rare mainstream band that made you feel cooler for listening to them.

Bombino album review: ‘Nomad’

Source: The Washington Post » Music

Nomad,” the second solo album from Niger-bred singer-guitarist Omara “Bombino” Moctar, opens with a pulsing blues-rock riff. The hook sounds like it might have been devised by the album’s producer, Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach. But this isn’t one of those projects in which a Western patron overpowers an African protege. Auerbach’s influence on Bombino’s buoyant music and versatile playing is significant but subtle.
