While the days of The Walkmen are behind him, Hamilton Leithauser’s raspy howl has mellowed pleasingly with his solo career, having released solo debut Black Hours in 2014 and I Had A Dream That You Were Mine, a collaborative album with Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, in 2016. His fall tour brought him back to NYC on Wednesday night (11/1) at Brooklyn Steel…

Courtney Marie Andrews brings her latest (and breakout) album Honest Life to Boot & Saddle tonight, a record whose first songs were written while the Seattle country musician was experiencing heartbreak and homesickness in Belgium. A collaborator of many and a longtime session player, Andrews recently teamed up with Bonnie “Prince” Billy for a duet of the classic gospel tune “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free” – a track featured in this month’s Now Hear This installment. Watch “Put the Fire Out” below and pick ...

Courtney Marie Andrews’ Brooding Departure into Retro Americana Is Her Best Career Move

Source: New York Music Daily

Courtney Marie Andrews’ latest album Honest Life – streaming at Spotify – sounds like a Melba Montgomery record from the early 70s, but with different production values. Saturday night was forbiddingly cold and snowy, but it couldn’t keep a sold-out crowd away from Damien Jurado’s show at the Boot & Saddle. It was a quirky night. Goldfish swam in a bowl at the merch table. The stage was bathed in disorienting deep red light, making us feel like we were in a darkroom until the last song, when the regular light suddenly snapped on and everyone scrambled to take a few decent photos.
