Uptown Special
(RCA Records)

Buy it at Amazon!

Since the beginning of his career, Mark Ronson has been a master of collaboration and nostalgia. Uptown Special relies on an arsenal of distinctive vocalists to carry off Ronson’s funky riffs and beats as well as lyrics by acclaimed novelist Michael Chabon. There are a few moments when the record suffers from a lack of imagination, but for the most part, Uptown Special is a fun, refreshing experience.

“Uptown Funk” is one of the most inescapable hits right now, and for good reason. Bruno Mars brings the perfect energy and swagger (“I’m too hot/Make ...

Special Delivery: Mark Ronson Sends Uptown Love in New Album

Source: Rock On Philly

Snap your fingers and pass the telegram, Mark Ronson has delivered yet again with Uptown Special, a funkadelic record that will give you Saturday Night fever on even the Mondayest of days.

Opening with the arresting, familiar sound of Stevie Wonder‘s harmonica, the gentle submerge sets the tone immediately. An appearance by Mystikal, as haphazard and serendipitous as it may seem at face value, doesn’t disrupt or lead askew. Instead, it’s comical flurry comes natural, and is irresistibly catchy. The superfly synths in tracks like ‘I Can’t Lose’ (featuring the relatively unknown Keyone Starr and her gripping, ...

Watch: Awesome Super Bowl Halftime Shows!

Source: Rock On Philly

The Super Bowl: it’s a pretty big deal. It’s a big deal for the two teams on the field, for sports fans watching, for the advertisers shelling out crazy amounts of cash for a 30 second spot. And for about 13 minutes, it’s a big deal for music.

Performing during the Super Bowl halftime show is an honor for any musician. This year, Bruno Mars has been given that honor, and he chose to share it with the Red Hot Chili Peppers (!!!!). Will they make history together? Or will they make America want to change the channel?
