XPN MusicNotes: Watch a trailer for The Rolling Stones’ blues album, read about Brian Wilson plans for a rock record

Source: The Key (WXPN)

The Rolling Stones are going to release a blues album tomorrow.

Earlier this week, the band’s website was updated to include a short teaser video titled “The Rolling Stones – Coming October 6th”, showing footage apparently shot inside British Grove Studios. Rumors have been swirling that it will be collection of covers of Chicago blues classics. The musical piece on the video is already indexed in Shazam as “Just Your Fool,” which is a 1953 rhythm and blues standard originally written and recorded by Buddy Johnson and his Orchestra. Cyndi Lauper covered the song with Charlie Musselwhite on her ...

If you close your eyes, it sounds just like it’s 1967 in Santa Monica. Or Pacific Beach or Carmel-by-the-Sea; whichever California beach town you prefer. But when you look around The Tower Theater on this particular fall night in Upper Darby, the room is filled with Beach Boys fans who have certainly been singing along to these surf rock songs for decades. There are also 11 people on stage, instead of the original five, but still creating that same magical, harmonic sound.

Brian Wilson is seated front and center at his ...

Rock music was beginning to gain an artistic consciousness way beyond what was previously thought possible, and the Beach Boys would soon be at the center of it.

The album of course begins with a bang, and this performance of it did too. “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” started the most amount of crowd singing/dancing that the Pet Sounds section would have all night (or maybe “Sloop John B” gave it a run for its money)…
