Video of The Day #302: Blur

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video Of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

There was a time, quite a long time ago, when yours truly knew every single word to this song. A quintessential piece of the Britpop era, “Girls and Boys” is Blur to the max. It’s sarcastic, it’s camp, and it’s a heck of a great song to dance to. The video is pretty silly, and while I don’t think you could say it’s aged ...

The Top 25 Records of Fuzzy Logic's Teen Years

Perhaps more than any other Facebook status update I’ve ever seen, the Top Ten Albums When You Were a Teenager list has been all over my feed for weeks now. After so much saturation, I couldn’t help but start to think about what my own list might look like. And then, having had plenty of titles (and memories) pop into my head, I decided to write about it.

Of course, I couldn’t possibly adhere to the 10 records thing. Instead, my list features 25 records I held close to my heart during those formative teenage years. There is so much ...

The Fashionably Late Top 50 of 2015: Blur

I am forever running late. While it may not be a part of my charm, I would refer you to the old saying about better late than never. In any case, after probably way too much thought, I finally settled upon my favorite 50 records from the year that was 2015. I’m also mixing it up a little this year, y’all. Instead of ranking every record, I’m giving you my picks in alphabetical order, saving my number one, very favorite record of the year for last. So sit back, relax, and refresh your memory of last year’s best with a ...

This Day in Music History: Faces release their first album with Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen wins an Oscar

1952 – Cleveland stakes a claim on Rock history when the Moondog Coronation Ball is held at the Cleveland Arena. Organized by the WJW DJ Alan Freed (“Moondog” on the air), it is widely considered the first Rock concert, with Billy Ward and The Dominoes, Tiny Grimes, and Paul Williams on the bill. The crowd is over capacity and police shut down the show because of fire code violations after just one song by Williams. The event proves to the music industry that this type of R&B music has widespread appeal.

1956 – The movie Rock Around The Clock, ...

2015 has been the year of battling injustices, terrorism, and Trump.  Sometimes you need someone to sing you a song that will get you through the insanity.  Luckily, a group of artists delivered.

“Alright” by Kendrick Lamar

The unofficial anthem of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, “Alright” played throughout the summer by DJs between sets at shows eliciting smiles and sing-a-longs every time. I think my favorite “Alright,” ...

Few artists have established résumés as diverse as Damon Albarn’s. The Blur frontman has gone from writing cheeky middle class tales to working with such diverse bands as Gorillaz, scoring films and plays, and championing African music. With Everyday Robots, Albarn is finally able to put his own name on a group of songs that combine his varied interests. The album is subtle but layered, and the lyrics are personal without always being specific. Still, it doesn’t feel like Albarn is holding back. Every choice, from the pronounced beats to Albarn’s melancholy delivery, ...
