Five shows in June you should not miss

Source: The Swollen Fox

The Bailey Hounds by Jason BlakeSaturday, June 6 – The Bailey Hounds @ Laurel Hill Cemetery – Tickets
You may not be too familiar with The Bailey Hounds, or at this point perhaps you’ve just forgotten about them. The band has kept relatively quiet in recent years, releasing a couple of singles late last year, the first bits of new music since the All the Blood in the World EP two years ago. But the Americana band with the slightly gothic sound makes music that ages well and is a perfect fit for a live concert in a cemetery. This Saturday, The Bailey Hounds will ...

Release Roundup: 13 new albums you should listen to this week

Source: The Swollen Fox

This week is where the 2015 Winter music release season takes off. Big names are releasing long-awaited albums—Sleater-Kinney ends a nearly 10-year break, while The Decemberists and Belle & Sebastian end four-year waits. And beyond those five standouts, there’s plenty else worthy of checking out this week. As usual, I’m here to roundup the best new releases—use the Spotify playlist above to listen to a song from each selected album, and read about those selections on the ...

2013 in review: Favorite concerts

Source: The Swollen Fox

2013 year in reviewEasily my favorite part of running The Swollen Fox is that I get to go to a ton of concerts every year and write about them. This year has been an absolute blast. I’ve been able to see some of my all-time favorite artists, as well as some newer favorites and even a living Beatle (Paul McCartney at Bonnaroo—but this list only considers Philly-area shows). I’ve managed to single out and rank my 15 favorite concerts of the year. Let’s get started…
