“NOBODY FOR PRESIDENT.”

The message was taped to the backside of Tom Morello’s famed Mongrel Custom — the same sky-blue, “Arm The Homeless” axe he’s wielded since his days stomping with Rage Against The Machine — and was revealed to Friday crowd only when Morello brought the instrument to his mouth, to shred with his teeth…

AWOLNATION at The Fillmore: A Photo Recap

Source: Rock On Philly

Photography by Michael Mauger

Tuesday night in Philadelphia was a rainy one. Hell, the entire day was dreary, wet, cold, nasty and just generally miserable. But, the weather was no match for raucous Philadelphia AWOLNATION fans – especially for a Tuesday night which saw yet another sell-out at the new Fillmore here in town.

AWOLnation_324

When the new Fillmore released its first batch of shows several months back, many in the area had Tuesday night circled on their calendar. AWOLNATION has been on a steady rise since the release of their debut album in 2011, and Tuesday night proved exactly ...

Firefly Backstage: Getting to Know Red Frog Events

Source: Rock On Philly

Featured Image by Stephanie DeFeo

During the month of June, I enjoyed the distinct privilege of acting in two professional capacities while visiting Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware for the first time. I was pulling double duty: spending two of my four days on site taking in the performances, sights and sounds as a representative of Rock On Philly while working during the other two days on staff for FestWorks. The awesome community and culture of the fans of the annual festival is a very unique one, possessing great interactivity in offering outlook and desired acts in anticipation and ...

My favorite moment from Firefly 2015 was getting to see Paul McCartney perform live. Up until then, I never had the opportunity and it exceeded my wildest expectations. He performed a marathon 2-hour set and had the entire 90,000 person crowd completely enthralled. What’s more, he seemed humbled by it all. It’s clear ...

Aaron Bruno of AWOLNATION Talks Run, Inspiration, and Touring

Source: Rock On Philly

Featured Image by Kari Rowe

AWOLNATION is coming to Philly for the Radio 104.5 8th Birthday Show on May 10. Rock On Philly had the pleasure of chatting with Aaron Bruno, the man behind AWOLNATION, and ask a few questions about the upcoming tour and the new album, Run.

Rock On Philly: The album is quite diverse in the sounds you chose. There’s an almost-jazz piano song (“Jailbreak”), Industrial sounds, and more of the “Sail”-ish quality/hiphop ish on “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf).” Where does the inspiration for your sounds come from?

Aaron Bruno: The inspiration, [rather] the influence of ...

Waiting to Wake Up: AWOLNATION and Cultural Moments

Source: Rock On Philly

Aaron Bruno makes nightmares. Well, more accurately, AWOLNATION – the we’re-screaming-at-you-on-Twitter moniker that stands in for Bruno and his hired electronic muscle – makes nightmares. Not the disturbing and willfully repellent sort that David Lynch cooked up on his too deliberate Crazy Clown Time, but the kind that rock traditionalists gawk at when their industrial spires hover grimly over an NBA on TNT broadcast. Think Fall Out Boy’s most current interpretation of what will move records – you know, the iteration of the band that recorded a batch of songs against a green screen to try and make blockbusters ...
