Looking to get your dreamy, alt fix? Brooklyn’s Yucca King produces heavy 90’s indie vibes, where laid back instrumentals meet wretching, bare-all vocals and angst-ridden lyricism. They just dropped their latest single, "Know It All," a track that would almost qualify for a ballad, if not for it’s bursting hook. Check out the band’s latest single streaming ...

Though New Yorkers have an eternal obligation to hurl mild-mannered disgust toward New Jersey Dwellers (I mean, have you been on those highways?) we still have to give credit where credit is due. Jersey’s emo/post-emo sound is where it’s at and it’s long legacy of churning out seminal emo bands is admittedly hard to challenge. Archie Alone ...

We recently stumbled upon music by New Jersey’s Darkwing, a post-grunge band from Leonia. Their 2015 EP, revealingly titled ‘Lameonia,’ is a fun, fast-paced record filled with fast paced rock’n’roll anthems. The distorted sound of the guitars, vocals, and drums (like on the opening track “201 Carousel,” streaming below) would make it a ...

There is nothing small about God Tiny‘s sound: the Brooklyn-based psych/garage rockers serve up frenetic, down-and-dirty rock action, and their new video for single, "Awaken," perfectly deliver that action and that dirt on a visual level. The black-and-white work features a female protagonist, roaming the streets and taking names and is chocks full of the vintage ...

Bootblacks offer a gothic melancholia bounced back and forth on synth-pop beats, a menacing vision of gloom that’s infectious. Bootblacks’ post-punk/new-wave sensibility is beautifully paired with Panther Macdonald’s vocals. They’re straight out of the post-punk catalogue: romantic, dramatic, seductive. The band promises a seedier vision of NYC, one of decadence and decay. Their newest work offers a more ...

New York City Uni‘s debut video, “What’s The Problem,” is a playful, provocative and extremely entertaining take on ’70s revival, but before you hit that play button you need to be aware that it’s NSFW! As the song kicks in, the shots get more outlandish, yet more absorbing, with the stylish photography and retro backdrop neutralizing – to a certain extent – the images’ sexual content. The new project, comprising Charlotte Kemp Muhl, David Strange, and Nico Fuzz, is truly as absurd as the band members’ own description of it (which you need to read), and takes in the theatrical inclinations of glam-rock while pushing it towards diverging pop and porn extremes – with some existentialism thrown in for good measure. “What’s the problem with the girls that come from good homes?” the vocals insist, catalyzing the visual absurdities, as drums get more aggressive, and the melody get stretched out towards triumphant “Ooos”. Strange’s guitar riffs are infectious, the hooks are catchy, and the drums drive the build up without overpowering those psych-pop undertones. Check out the video below, and be sure to catch the band’s performance at Baby’s All Right on August 7th. – Pearse Devlin

If we’re going to be honest about it, 2017 has yet to produce a real summer banger. However, NYC-based MICKY (aka Michael Persall), might have just delivered the ultimate track to save you from those summer blues. "He Won’t," the Motown-pop influenced singer’s newest song premiering exclusively with the Deli, is another perfect example of MICKY’s penchant for making vintage sounds feel fresh and modern. With smooth horns, soulful falsetto vocals and funky synths, "He Won’t" is easily your perfect top-down driving tune.
