Is This It? Examining The Strokes’ Debut LP 15 Years Later

Source: Rock On Philly

Written by Dan Cousart

In early 2001, the music world was in a very, very dark place. Nu Metal and Rap Rock were the popular genres, and baggy pants, frosted tips and track suits were in style. The boys called themselves the Strokes, and their debut record ...

Albert Hammond Jr. Delivers ‘Masterful’ Show at First Unitarian Church

Source: Rock On Philly

Photography by Amanda Silberling

You’ve heard the story before – a guy in a legendary band tries to make it as a solo artist, only to realize that he’s at his best when he’s playing rhythm guitar on the side of the stage. But, in Albert Hammond Jr.‘s case, his origin as a guitarist in The Strokes has no bearing on his undeniable talent and charisma as a frontman.

On Saturday night, Albert Hammond Jr. drove the crowd at the First Unitarian Church wild as he played his newly-released third solo album Momentary Masters almost in its entirety. The energetic, goofy ...

The woods are certainly alive as Albert Hammond Jr. wanders through them in his new video for “Carnal Cruise”. In the clip, The Strokes guitarist finds himself eclipsed by hazy smoke that changes color and clouds his vision as he sings “there was something on my mind that I can’t explain.” The track is from his latest EP AHJ that was released last month on his bandmate Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records. Albert Hammond Jr. performs this Wednesday night, November 6th at Johnny Brenda’s. Tickets are available here. Watch the ...

The Strokes have been a mainstay in indie rock since propelling themselves into the limelight back in 2001. They are looked upon as one of the great bands of our generation, with Rolling Stone crediting them with the revival of garage rock and placing them at #8 on their list of 100 Greatest Debut Albums of All Time. Albert Hammond Jr. is a guitarist in The Strokes and while he’s experienced a huge amount of success with his band, he’s also found a good amount as a solo artist.
