Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session: Dude York

Our latest Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session is with the Seattle trio Dude York! Gradually formed out of a lo-fi side project, Dude York released their second full-length, Sincerely, earlier this year on Hardly Art. The band’s penchant for hooky power pop is melded (and melted) with a veritable army of distortion pedals. The result is a sweet-and-sour approach to breakups, breakdowns and celebrating your own damn self.

Our session opens the same way the album does, with Peter Richards‘ layered guitar work kicking serving as ...

An exclusive premiere for Deli readers! The Duskwhales have released the first video from their forthcoming album, Sorrowful Mysteries. The single, Friday The 13th, heralds forward momentum for the DC-based trio. Recorded in a professional-grade studio, the song is mature, relative to the band’s previous efforts. Where once the energy was unbridled, it now feels tamed – almost simmering and ready to burst forth like a stalking panther. Stirring lyrics and keys reminiscents of ...

Embracing at once gentleness, distortion, reverb and feedback, NYC trio Wild Pink crafts dreamo-pop that’s enjoyable and varied. And in case you are wondering what "dreamo-pop" is, it’s dream pop with traces of emo in it (you should have gotten that one!). After two EPs released in 2015 and 2016, the band dropped their debut, self titled full length earlier in 2017, and it’s a record of rare songwriting consistency. They have two pretty ...

Video of The Day #249: Reptaliens

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

Recent Captured Tracks signees and eccentric dreampop purveyors Reptaliens just released, on this very day, their first single for said label. Directed by drummer Tyler Verigin, the clip for the moody, muted rainbow nugget is “about the life and making of a serial killer.” Not your average inspiration, then. So sweetly and addictively catchy that you might find yourself humming it all day, the song’s ...

In their six months of existence, TIOGA’s profile has risen enough to become one of Philly’s most buzzworthy acts. Since the release of their first EP Sycamores back in November, TIOGA has gone on to travel all around the East Coast, Midwest, and South, taking their polished and dynamic live show with them wherever they go. Free at Noon Flashback: Portugal. The Man proves they are the man with a smattering of alt pop gold

Portugal. The Man | photo by Tiana Timmerberg for WXPN

With the outside world taken over by some premature April showers, University City was in need of some form of escapism. Well, we got it in the form of alternative geniuses Portugal. The Man. Taking a break in between two massive sold-out shows at Union Transfer, the Alaska-based pop twisters packed fan favorites into 35 minutes of pure euphoria.

With the stage masked with blinding LEDs and a heavy haze, the five-piece busted on stage to a smattering of hits from their 2013 hit Evil Friends, rolling effortlessly ...

Ross Bellenoit puts his spin on “Innocent Bones” by Iron & Wine for Future Corpses

Ross Bellenoit | photo by Brett Wilshe

We’re just three months into 2017 and already Ross Bellenoit has reimagined classic songs by Eric Clapton, Genesis, and now Iron & Wine. The recordings are part of a year-long project he’s calling Future Corpses, releasing a series of genre-melding covers month by month on his Bandcamp. This time around the local singer/songwriter takes the hushed, organic original cut of “Innocent Bones” that appeared on Sam Beam’s 2007 The Shepherd’s Dog LP and spins it into electrified euphoria.

It’s all for the fun of experimentation, as Bellenoit explains the inspiration for the ...
