Danny Black (aka Daniel Schwartz of Good Old War) joined me tonight in the 8 p.m. hour of the XPN Local Show to talk about his new solo album Adventure Soundtrack. It was just released on 2/24 on Nettwerk Records.

No, Good Old War did not break up. But Danny Black had time off from touring and he relaxes through writing and recording, particularly instrumental guitar music. While GOW is in the process of working on a new album, he decided to release this collection of songs and do a solo tour ...

Video Of The Day #234: Dude York

Video Of The Day #234: Dude York

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

Seattle’s Dude York has a kind of irresistible charm, especially when it comes to “Love Is.” The trio showcases their feisty, sweetly 90s-esque rock racket with aplomb, and the video lands the band smack dab into a timewarp of a set that feels like the middle ground between high school prom and late night public access channel. Seriously, what’s not to love?

Sounds of Savannah Stopover 2017 #1: Kane Strang

The start of festival season is once again upon us, and one of the first fests of the season has turned into one of the finest. Capitalizing on its location in the path of many SXSW-bound bands, Savannah Stopover‘s 2017 lineup looks incredibly tempting. If I was going down there myself, these are the bands I’d just about move heaven and earth to try to see. And if you’re free between March 9-11, why not head on down to Savannah and see what all the fuss is about for yourself?

First up, a look at the Stopover act very probably ...

Get your porches ready, people, because Porchfest is making a grand return to West Philly this summer on Saturday, June 3rd.

As predicted, West Philly’s diverse, culture-rich neighborhoods provided the perfect landscape for Porchfest to thrive–and ...

Sylvan Esso began rolling out new material last September, sharing the perfectly poppy “Radio” and its b-side “Kick Jump Twist” but keeping details of their sophomore effort underwraps at the time. Today the duo revealed those details: What Now will be out on April 28th via Loma Vista Recordings, accompanied by a multi-month international tour that thankfully includes a headlining date at Union Transfer on May 20th.

What Now follows up the North Carolinians’ breakthrough debut LP from 2014 with ten tracks created in response to ...
