Otherwise Engaged: Fear of Men

It is an unfortunate reality for the serious concertgoer that on occasion, there will be more than one show on any given night that you really, really, REALLY wanna go to. Since the vast majority of us don’t own a time machine, nor have the ability to either clone ourselves or split ourselves in half (or thirds or quarters depending on the night in question), this tends to present a problem. Difficult decisions are made based on a variety of variables (perhaps some of you even make lists of pros and cons), and ultimately, a show is chosen. But those ...

A Beautiful, Drama-Free Evening with Ray LaMontagne

Source: Rock On Philly

All Photography by Mike Mauger

Let’s play a fun game.  Think of what you know of Ray LaMontagne.  Got it?  Great.  Now think of what you know by My Morning Jacket?  All set?  Great.  Now what would you get if you put them together and create a little musical baby?

Well, if your answer was an illuminating, transient musical experience reminiscent of Pink Floyd, then you were right.  Now…  if that wasn’t your answer, then you were wrong.  But the good news is that Ray LaMontagne / My Morning Jacket music baby actually exists, and even if you missed ...

Arctic Synth Pop duo The Familiar releases sophomore EP 'Seconds'

The members of electronic duo The Familiar share a Norwegian heritage, and are based one in Brooklyn and the other one in a place called Tromsø, which appears to be a Norwegian city that’s closer to the North Pole than Iceland. No wonder they sing about "Patience" (the title of their single streaming below) in ways that are not exactly heart warming! Of course this is very stereotypical of us, but it’s undeniable that the amount of sunlight a country gets has a direct influence on the kind of art it produces – it’s no coincidence that northern cultures are ...

BLUE ORCHIDS “AWEFULL”

RECORD REVIEWS - June 2016

When Martin Bramah left the Fall after the great ‘Live at the Witch Trials’, he formed this excellent post punk band. The direction is given extra pizzazz with a cheesy psyche organ that perfectly merges the 60s with the 80s. The guitars are fierce and the rhythm section is high in the mix, so it has all the great post punk sounds that you expect. The songs are generally quite good as well and there are some demos amidst the better known songs. These songs are rarities and singles and such, but come together to form a ...
