Video of The Day #128: Dilly Dally

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video Of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

Dilly Dally plays tonight with Fat White Family, so in honor of that I say let’s tip our collective cap to their video skills. “Purple Rage” is shot tinted with purple, and features the exploits of singer Katie Monks wandering around city and wilderness dolled up like a purple swamp thing. Somehow, it works, given the band’s teeth-gnashing snarl punk sound. Good watch, and ...

Yes, from now on please associate this the 30th of April with the noisy no good (in such a good way) shenanigans of FWF.

If you’re in DC, come celebrate this monumental occasion with the Fat White Family/Dilly Dally double bill of excellence a the U Street Music Hall this evening. And if you’re not able to make the show, well, here’s a little something for you, my friend.

Watch Chelsea Sue Allen and friends cover Beck at Burlap and Bean; playing Fiona Fest in June

West Chester folkie and The Key favorite Chelsea Sue Allen performed at Burlap and Bean last week, and she brought up some friends, Brad Almond & Chelsea Julian, to cover Beck’s version of The Korgis’ “Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime.”

The 1980 song was originally covered by Beck for the classic Kate Winslet & Jim Carrey film Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Each of the performers take turns on lead vocals and harmonies, and the simple instrumentation of just keyboards and acoustic guitar presents a faithful yet sweet take ...

Frogbelly & Symphony Bring Their Enigmatic, Apocalyptic Art-Rock to Gowanus on May 12

Source: New York Music Daily

Psychedelic art-rockers Frogbelly & Symphony are the kind of band you want to catch on the way up. They’re like a vintage Jaguar: when they’re firing on all twelve cylinders, their elegant power can be breathtaking, a force to be reckoned with. When those cylinders aren’t all firing in sync, things can get messy. Their latest album Blue Bright Ow Sleep – streaming at Spotify – leaves no doubt as to the band’s ambition and talent. They’re playing Rock Shop on May 12 at around 10:30 PM; cover is $10

The album opens aptly with Minderbinder:

After vibrant sets from Joy Ike (watch it here) and The Bul Bey (watch here), the NPR Music Tiny Desk Road Show came to a close with the atmospheric, art-pop outfit Tutlie – a runner up in this year’s NPR Music Tiny Desk contest.

Normally a six-piece band, Tutlie expanded to a nine-piece for this performance, including harp and vibraphones to capture the beautifully arranged nuances of “Bison,” the band’s entry in the Tiny Desk Contest.
