former Wall of Voodoo frontman Stan Ridgway touring (dates)

Source: Brooklyn Vegan

by Bill Pearis

Stan Ridgway

Both with his band Wall of Voodoo and on solo albums, Stan Ridgway is a vivid storyteller, bringing a noir style (and a distinctive vocal style and harmonica-playing) to tales of love, lust, unhappy accidents, procrastination, ghost marines in Vietnam, urban ennui and other subjects. His most recent album is 2012’s Mr. Trouble which has him dabbling in ’40s-era jazz, which is a natural fit for him.

Of course he’s best known for his time in Wall of Voodoo (and their MTV hit “Mexican Radio”), and the three records he made with them are highly underrated post-punk ...

Brooklyn singer/composer Moonheart unveils ‘Blow’ + plays three NYC shows

Source: Deli Magazine NY

A little over a year after releasing her second effort, the quietly moving piano affair ‘little bits,’ twenty-four-year-old singer/composer Moonheart shared latest song “Blow” (streaming below) last week. A subtly thrilling blend of heedful guitars, skipping beats, and the Brooklyn dweller’s agile voice, the romance track seems to be influenced by minimalism (like Doe Paoro’s work) but is very touching. A conservatory graduate, Mayo certainly knows theory but she never lets it stop her from conveying emotion. Kim Mayo is expected to drop her first full-length this year. She performs at Leftfield on August 6, at Rockwood on the 13th ...

stream Ultimate Painting’s new album ‘Green Lanes’

Source: Brooklyn Vegan

by Bill Pearis

Ultimate Painting Green Lanes album

We’ve had a heatwave in NYC all week with temperatures in ’90s. If you’re looking to cool off, Ultimate Painting‘s terrific second album, Green Lanes, is chill in all the right ways. James Haore’s ’60s pop sensibilities and Jack Cooper’s love of the Grateful Dead play well off each other, keeping things mellow but never boring. It’s a “Magic Hour” kind of record you can leave on repeat and not notice (or mind). The album’s out next week (8/7) on Trouble in Mind but you can stream the whole thing (via Noisey) below.

Motorhead‘s 22nd album Bad Magic comes out August 28, and the band has released a lyric video for new single “Electricity.” Like “Thunder & Lightning,” it pretty much has them sticking to their late ’70s/early ’80s style, which for a band like Motorhead is totally fine. Check it out below.

The band’s tour with Anthrax hits the NYC-area on September 16 at Jones Beach. Tickets are still available. Motorhead also play the Toronto, Denver and Chicago Riot Fests.
