Wave Age – Mother

Source: Blisspop » DC Music

After releasing “Thug Love,” mum was the word with Wave Age up until now. The super secretive DC based producer has released a treat for us on Halloween: a melodic, deep house banger that is bound to make your inner monster howl tonight when it’s dropped on the dance floor.

Sampling Danzig’s track of the same name, “Mother” is like the extremely sexy babysitter who lets you stay up late: smoking hot and plenty of bass to hold on to (no treble). Complete with a jacking bassline, pan delayed synths, and tropical notes for a little lightness, this track is ...

Tera Melos guitarist Nick Reinhart released a Halloween LP (stream it); Tera Melos opening Circa Survive/Title Fight tour

Source: Brooklyn Vegan

Nick Reinhart

Nick Reinhart, guitarist/vocalist for math rockers Tera Melos, is celebrating Halloween with Scary Sounds II, the spooky-sounding guitar-only followup to last year’s similarly themed Scary Sounds. Every sound you hear on the album was made with a guitar, and it definitely lives up to its name. You can download it at bandcamp for $6.66 and stream it in full below.

Tera Melos was also added to the first leg of the Circa Survive / Title Fight tour. (Pianos Become the Teeth, who just played NYC, are on the second.) That includes the NYC show ...

Best of CMJ 2014: NYC’s PC Worship

Source: Deli Magazine NY

From JP’s report of day 1 of the CMJ Music Marathon 2014: "The PC Worship show (a band featuring members of Parquet Courts), was actually a solo performance: a dude sitting in a lawn chair, playing a tinny-sounding guitar, moaning out his heart. This lawn chair was positioned in the corner of the outside patio area at Silent Barn, and started pretty much immediately after Broken Water finished, so, especially in my mildly inebriated state, I wasn’t the quickest to get out there. But when I did stumble out there, what I saw was heartfelt, and meaningful and pretty. ...

Best of CMJ 2014: Malatese

Source: The Deli Magazine

From Jake’s report of day 3 of the CMJ Music Marathon 2014: "Virginia’s Malatese (from Harrisonburg, which JUST makes it into the area of our coverage) plays something that may be referred to as post-no-wave-pre-post-pre-punk music.  Their melodies/jams/grooves/whatever you wanna call ’em are dissonant and aggressive, drowned under a wave of distortion and Travis’ noisy vocals.  Their music is already a little strange and head-tilt inducing, but Travis adds this extra little element of weird that brings it to a level of ingenuity.  First of all, he runs his vocals through a 404 sampler, using all the weird delay ...

Halloween Thrills and Chills from the American Modern Ensemble

Source: New York Music Daily

At Merkin Concert Hall last night, American Modern Ensemble director and virtuoso percussionist Robert Paterson explained to the sold-out crowd that the show had been eight years in the making. And he made it worth everyone’s while. It might or might not have been a rather brazen attempt to upstage works by George Crumb and David Del Tredici with a trio of his own compositions, but that was the ultimate result. Whatever the intention, it made for a great night of music.

The ensemble began as a sextet and by the time they hit the intermission, they’d grown to ...

Best f CMJ 2014: Toot Sweet

Source: Deli Magazine NY

From JP’s report of day 4 of the CMJ Music Marathon 2014: "After Johnie Lee Jordan & The Boys finished, I made my way over to Muchmore’s to see the Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen showcase, featuring an insane twelve bands. I arrived at around 7:30, and saw the stage, but nothing on it. This was to be a floor show. Bands and gear were setting up on the floor. Cool. A drag queen MC started things off and introduced the first band, Toot Sweet. They had an accordion. Need I say more? Accompanying the instrument of instruments were ...

John Carpenter releasing LP of ‘Lost Themes’ via Sacred Bones (stream a track)

Source: Brooklyn Vegan

by Bill Pearis

John Carpenter

As some of you may know, in addition to being a great genre filmmaker, John Carpenter is no slouch as a musician, having scored most of his movies himself. His synth-heavy late-’70s / early-’80s work (often made with Alan Howarth) — like Assault on Precinct 13, The Fog, and the iconic Halloween three-note score — have proved almost as influential as the films they were made for, especially in electronic circles..

In early October, Carpenter appeared at this year’s sci-fi conclave, the Beyond Festival, where he told the panel crowd that some of his ...
