AmericanaramA Ticket Giveaway!!!!!

Source: DC Decibel

One of the biggest shows of the summer, AmericanaramA, is coming to Merriweather Post Pavillion July 23rd. The bill is basically a music festival, headlined by Bob Dylan, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, and the ever adorable Ryan Bingham (<3). Below is my selfish excuse to talk a little bit about each of the bands along with a tidbit about one of the more special Americanarama moments they have had thus far on the tour (not too many spoilers I hope.)

Bob Dylan: There’s very little to be said about Bob Dylan that hasn’t been said before. One of the ...

Source: Blisspop » DC Music

We at Blisspop are pleased to announce that we’ve recently rounded out our crew of resident DJs with the immensely talented Baronhawk Poitier. Poitier is quickly becoming something of a household name in the District’s Dance scene, opening for artists such as Disclosure, Oscar G, Grandmaster Flash and local DC legend Sam “The Man” Burns. The young DJ has also held residencies at U Street Music Hall, Tropicalia, Satellite Room, Velvet Lounge and other local hot-spots. In honor of Mr. Poitier’s addition to the Blisspop roster, we’re sharing a recording of his mix from this past Saturday’s DC Takeover ...

Ben Folds Five (gallery) and Barenaked Ladies (gallery) kept their cool for the Last Summer on Earth Tour as it coasted into the Merriweather Post Pavilion on Monday night. Temperatures were still in the high 80s even after the sun went down, but that didn’t stop the wave of hits and old favorites.
Openers Boothby Graffoe and Guster were a big hit with the crowd that got there early. BNL actually came out during Boothby’s set to jam, and then Boothby, Guster and Ben Folds joined the stage during BNL’s set to help up the jams.

Getting to Know Your Local DJs (Part III)

Source: Blisspop » DC Music

Here’s the third and final part of our mini series. Check out our interviews with Ken Lazee and Eric Masiello!

DJ Ken Lazee

Ken Lazee has been on some coveted line-ups since his career began back in the mid-1990s.  He opened for The Crystal Method and DJ Dan in the Nation main room for one of the Buzzlife closing parties, he opened for Mark Farina at Club Five, and just last year he warmed for DJ Sneak at U Street Music Hall.  As Lazee simply states, “All of these performers have had a huge influence on me and it was ...

9:30 A Place in Time

Source: DC Rocks

One of the reasons I write DC ROCKS is because once upon a time I had a pal named Peter who was a regular at the old 9:30 Club. Maybe it’s the company I keep, but a lot of people like to tell me how much time they spent at that grimy old rock hole, and I have to admit when I look back, I wonder, what was the attraction?

That part of town was scary. The only other night life down there besides peep shows was dc space, and you took your life in your hands running between the ...

Getting to Know Your Local DJs (Part II)

Source: Blisspop » DC Music

Next up in our DC Takeover profile are the talented Charles Martin and Baronhawk Poitier Williams.

Charles Martin

A vinyl fiend with an ear for East Coast House, Techno and Breakbeat, Charles Martin truly appreciates the eclectic.  He began DJing in 1996 after hearing guys like Danny Tenaglia, Scott Henry, Charles Feelgood, and DJ Icee: “After hearing acts like them perform and seeing how they moved crowds, I was inspired to start spinning records myself.”

Even with over a decade of DJing under his belt, Martin is still able to find a favorite moment among all the gigs. “Spinning at ...

Time to Take the Fort

Source: DC Rocks

Sorry for the late notice, but this year’s Fort Reno concert series is starting late and snuck up on me at the same time. Tonight- the first show- will feature a rare chance to see The Evens– a band that won’t play clubs if they can help it and whose roots run deep under that old wooden stage to Fugazi days.

Fort Reno- close to Tenleytown metro- is the highest point in the city and rarely without a breeze. Bring your blanket, a picnic, your kids, your iguana, (on leash) but bear in mind no glass bottles or alcohol. ...
